When talking about them from a deckbuilding perspective, you usually expect ramp options that untap your lands, but some of them let you choose which player’s lands untap. Untap land cards can untap one or more lands. Let me know if you have more questions and I’ll do my best to answer them.Pore Over the Pages | Illustration by Magali Villeneuve How committed are you to the Aurelia combo? It seems like it’d be much easier to run Aggravated assault and Hellkite Charger and combo out with Bear Umbra and Sword of Feast and Famine.Īnyway, this post is running a little long, so I’m going to end it here. The odds that you have it in hand at the moment it’s useful are pretty low I feel like you’re better off building your deck and playing as if your creatures are inevitably going to die instead of spending slots on half-measures against board wipes. Boros Charm: I’m just not a fan of situational cards like this. Spike Feeder: If you’re going to drop counters onto a Spike, I think Spike Weaver has more utility. Nightshade Peddler: If you value this effect, I’d run Gorgon Flail instead. Hellrider: He’s kinda fragile, and I’m really not a big fan of direct damage in Commander. If you’re going to run mana dorks, run something with some chutzpah, like Somberwald Sage or Rofellos. ![]() Gyre Sage: He’s a mana dork that requires you to play another spell before he can even match a Llanowar Elf in mana production. Besides, you’re planning on adding Iroas to this list, right? Frontline Medic: Once we add in a bunch of enchantments that make our creatures huge, we won’t really need to worry about our guys taking damage in combat. That way, you’re less likely to get blown out by Vandalblast/Austere Command/your own Bane of Progress. You’re playing green, so unless your metagame has a ton of mass land destruction, you’re better off running green ramp spells like Explosive Vegetation, Ranger’s Path, Hunting Wilds, Skyshroud Claim. Astral Cornucopia/Boros Signet/Gruul Signet/Talisman of Impulse: I’m not a fan of these cards. Archetype of Aggression: Creatures die really easily in Commander, so if you value this effect, consider running Primal Rage, Gruul War Plow, and other, less fragile trample enablers. To make room for them, I would recommend cutting the following cards, for the following reasons: Without the Earthcraft, though, it’s only $41. Finally, it’d be nice to profit off of tokens dying, so I’d make room for Death’s Presence, Blade of the Bloodchief (these two make it so that Marath recoups the counters when the tokens die, which is very useful for combos), Martyr’s Bond, and Vicious Shadows.Īll of those cards total to around $60, using tcgplayer mid prices. I’d also want some ways to sacrifice my tokens for value, so I’d make sure to run Perilous Forays and Ashnod’s Altar. Once they’re in play, I’d better figure out something to do with them, whether that’s controlling the board with Glare of Subdual or beating in for massive damage with Beastmaster Ascension, Collective Blessing, Dictate of Heliod, etc. Since I’m going to be having a bunch of tokens enter the battlefield, I might as well run Aura Shards to get some value, or Warstorm Surge to deal some damage. I also like Earthcraft, since it allows you to strip off all of Marath’s counters at once and generate a (tapped) token army. I would start by adding in Primal Vigor, Doubling Season, and Parallel Lives, since your Commander cares about counters and tokens. Feel free to use as many of these suggestions as you like, or none at all. If you’d like to fully exploit Marath’s potential, you should find this interesting. Okay, I’ve fiddled a bit with Marath and the end result was more of a combo deck than the aggro build you’re running. Go ahead and suggest anything you think would be good, I may have it in another deck I can pull it from. Aside from that the deck is not set in stone, I know that a great deal of real estate is tied up in what I want to keep but can you offer any suggestions? You can find my deck list here on The budget is cards currently in the deck and up to $50 on new cards. I know that I want to keep my infinite combat steps with Aureila, my infinite tokens combo with Kiki and Conscripts, and all 6 gods. I know what I want to do and what I want to keep but I don’t know what to cut. I’ve been having trouble finding the trouble spots for my marath deck.
